Arrivals after 1930
This group of arrivals had life much different. Many stores and services had started in Elk Point with the arrival of the railroad in 1926 and the Municipal Hospital built in 1926 with its highly reputed medical staff was a big draw to the area. However the country was in the grip of the Great Depression and little money and almost no work was to be had. Many arrivals arrived from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan where the great drought had wiped them out and they arrived with all they had left and wanted to start again. It was not easy. Looming problems in Europe and around the world also cut down the optimism that often accompanies a move. This was certainly a different time and place from earlier arrivals.
