RON'S FROZEN FOOD LOCKER PLANT

We moved from Terrace, British Columbia, to Elk Point in May 1976 where we purchased a slaughter house from Newton Warren. It was first called Ron's Frozen Foods and was later changed to McHugh Bros. Ltd. We operated in the present building for one year and in May of 1977 built an addition, 24 X44 in which we worked successfully for five months and then fire completely destroyed the shop. At the time of the fire which was October 22, 1977, we were doing a kill of thirty five to forty head a week. Cause of the fire was a "short" in one of the compressors which was at the back of the original building. At the time of the fire, employed were Ron and Gail McHugh (owners), John Gusnowski, and several part-time workers. Over the one and a half years we had the shop, other employees were Bernie, Shelley and Allan deKergommeaux, Don and Linda McHugh, Bob Merrick, Eric Holthe, Rick Day, Walter Porcina and Terry Gochko. We are now renting a space in the old Coop building and will be opening a meat shop the end of May.
