Mayor Ed Buck announced Friday that Pan Canadian Petroleum Limited, has taken an option on 10.68 acres of land in the Elk Point Industrial Park, and plans to build an office building, warehouse and outdoor storage yard on the site. Total cost of the development could reach $750,000.
Buck declared he is “‘Quite excited’’ about a major oil company locating in the community. Elk Point has been lobbying oil companies for some time, to encourage them to locate in the town. ‘‘This type of development gives us more confidence in other developments, and we hope it starts a trend for other companies to follow,” the mayor added.
Pan Canadian met with the conditions set by town. council at their September 24 meeting, which asked for offsite levies to be paid on the one lot which will be serviced, with levies to be deferred on the other three lots until such time as they require servicing. :
Pan Canadian officials John Helbak and Peter Fuller were in Elk Point last week to finalize the deal, and expressed a feeling that the new development will be of advantage to both the town and to their company. Elk Point can supply housing and amenities for company employees while the broadened tax base provided by the development will help to provide increased services for a growing town population.
