There were over 300 people present gathered from all parts of the district. The hall was tastily decorated with the national colors, flags and bunting. The building was completed only a few days before then and is handsome and commodious. It will seat 600 people and is owned by the Elk Industrial Association. The opening address was made by W.J. Blair, the conservative candidate for Battle River Constituency. After a musical program the floor was cleared and dancing began. The music was supplied by a five-piece orchestra. June 16/15 A dastardly deed was committed at Hopkins a few days ago when some despicable character cut the ferry loose with the result that the boat was swept down the river and is lost. Traffic now is obliged to go by way of the ferry at Elk Point. It is not thought that the government will replace the boat this season. The Mounted Police are investigating the matter and reports are that they have their suspicions and one or two persons in the neighborhood are under surveillance, and arrests may take place at any moment, the motive oi the offense is difficult to ascertain.
June 25/15 -An important change is announced in the man service between Vermilion and Elk Point. Heretofore the courier went to Vermilion via Hopkins and Caskey returning the same route. Under the new arrangement which will go into effect within the next few weeks, the mails will go direct to Elk Point crossing over the Elk Point ferry. A new mail service will be established north of the river connecting with the mails from Vermilion at Elk Point and serving the offices at Caskey, Overton, and Lake Eliza. In all probability, the office at Hopkins will be closed and removed to the south side of the river. The present mail service between Angle Lake and Northern Valley will be discontinued as the route will be covered by the courier from Vermilion to Elk Point.
