ELK POINT UNITED CHURCH BOARD

The Elk Point United Church Board, which is a combination of the Session and Committee of St. Edwards, was approved at the annual congregational meeting held January 25, 1970.
The total board is made up of five committees, Christian Education, Finance and Stewardship, Worship, Visitation and Maintenance. Another Committee known as "The Minister and Personnel Committee" was implemented later.
As a rule the various committees meet some time prior to the regular monthly board meetings. The chairman of each committee then reports to the board any problems or suggestions arising from these committee meetings.
The Pastoral Charge of Elk Point includes Glendon and Rife. We welcome representatives from these two charges to attend our board meetings. The annual congregational meeting is usually held on the last Sunday of January to hear the reports of the previous year.
The centralized records show fourteen baptisms, seven weddings and ten funerals for 1977. Communion services are held quarterly with various members of the congregation participating in the serving.

Williams, Velma Andrishak, Vera Romanchuk, Paul Higgins, Edith Mitchell, Donna Fedorus, Irene Miller, John Zayonce, (Mrs.) A. B. Holliday, Bill Schuhmacher, Chris Appleton, Nesta Evtushevski and Marion Tredger. Marion Tredger is our delegate to Conference and Presbytery.

The board gave the use of the Church Hall without charge for the following: Guide and Brownie tea and bake sale, for weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, for Parent's Effectiveness Training and for U. C. Women meetings
Elk Point United Church and Christian Education Centre.
Rev. Allan Miller left at the end of June 1977 to take up his ministerial duties at Bruce Mines, Ontario. Rev. Dick Bateman came the first of July of the same year from New Norway, Alberta. Church services are held every Sunday except July or August at ten A. M. in Elk Point, at twelve noon in Glendon and at 2:30 p.m. at Rife.

The Elk Point United Church Women had a busy and rewarding year in 1977 under the leadership of the following executive: President--Irene Miller, Vice-President--Marion Tredger, Secretary--Martha Zarowney, Treasurer--Bea Williams.
Catering to banquets continues to be a means of raising funds, as well as the noon luncheons which were served at the monthly meetings of the Chamber of Commerce. A fall bazaar was well attended and much interest was shown in our new 'Squares Cookbook'.
The rummage store serves many people-those who wish to look for good used clothing; articles to make over; or pieces for quilting. Rags are sorted and sold to garages and businesses requiring them. Clothing is obtained for families whose belongings have been destroyed by fire.
The above projects go beyond our membership of fifteen ladies and grateful thanks go to all in the church and community who assist by donating and by working with us. We could not do it alone.
The money we raised was spent in many ways. Money was sent along with church donations to the Mission and Service fund of our United Church. Camp Whitney, the United Church camp for this area, was remembered. Money was provided for the painting of the C. E. hall and narthex of the church, as well as obtaining drapes for the windows. When necessary we helped with the church budget, mainly assisting with the manse payments.
Our group is part of the St. Paul Presbyterian and attended the annual meeting and the Spring Rally at Lake Whitney. Lunch or dinner was provided for several congregational events: the Lloydminster Joy Singers were hosted at the Good Friday Service, a farewell planned for the Allan Millers in June and a welcoming get-together for the Batemans following Dick Bateman's Induction Service in September.
Timely programs of local and world-wide interest were held at the monthly meetings. These helped to keep us aware of the work of the church at home and world wide, and of concerns in our own local church and community.
