How EP was Named
Many theories have been circulated as to how Elk Point got its name. From the early settlers we have gleaned the following:
A certain Mr. Higbe from South Dakota, operated a Post Office on the bank of the North Sask. River. Wondering what it should be called and with the aid of his friends' advice, he called it Elk Point after the town in S. Dakota from whence he came. This name quite suited the area because it was also the home of large herds of elk.
Another name suggested was Courtville in honor of Mr. Court Smith.
