ECHOES OF WORLD WAR ONE
J.G. (Gay) Heffernan served with the 50th Battalion in France from just after the Battle of Vimy Ridge until the end of the war with the exception of three months when he was sent to base camp as he was underage. This collection was written in 1983.
The beginning also shows his families move in 1911 from Toledo Ontario, to homestead near Kuroki Saskatchewan. Later they moved to Alsask, Alberta in 1913. Gay joined the army in the spring of 1915. He has clearly described army life in WWI. Upon his discharge in 1919 he returned to homestead in Alberta starting near Oyen, Alberta, eventually settling near Elk Point Alberta in the Ferguson Flats district.
The incidents recorded here, he assure us, are genuine. His Regimental Number was 696918.
